In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)
In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a process of fertilization where an egg is combined with sperm outside the body, in vitro. In standard IVF, embryos are grown under very strictly controlled conditions in the laboratory for two or three days. They are then transferred into the woman’s uterus (womb) and any additional embryos can be frozen for future use.
The procedure is carried in a well-equipped laboratory under the guidance of well trained medical staff. This process starts by collecting sperms from the male body and taking eggs from the female body at the same time. The eggs are fertilized through an advanced lab process and allowed to develop the embryos in incubators in an environment replicating the human body. Then these embryos are transferred to the uterus for implantation and growing into a baby.
Then after 14 days, the pregnancy test is done to confirm the pregnancy.
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)
ICSI ( Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection ) fertility treatment is one of the most successful treatments for men, who have been diagnosed as being infertile. This procedure is gaining popularity and is used in as many as 50% of the IVF treatments which are undertaken. The treatment is usually recommended when the male partner has very low or even zero sperm count. If there is a high percentage of abnormally shaped and formed sperms. Since these sperms can have low motility and low fertility, this procedure increases the likelihood of fertilization.
We also use ICSI when an earlier IVF cycle has failed. With the help of this procedure, the sperms are directly injected into the eggs, to fertilize them, so that fertilization is not left to chance.
